How to Invest in Stocks for Free. Seriously
A new mobile app has enabled a generation of young investors to start their portfolios absolutely free
If you take any college level economics class, one of the first things you will learn is that there is no such thing as a free lunch. Well, typically I would agree, but to every rule there is an exception. The Robinhood app is one such exception.
If you've ever wanted to invest in the stock market, but have not had the capital or the guts to do so, Robinhood makes it easy. Robinhood is the premier mobile app that lets users set up a free account, buy and sell stocks with zero transaction fees, and even starts your portfolio off with a free share from a major company like Sprint, Apple, or Ford.
Before Robinhood I was too afraid to invest in the market. My feeling was that if I wanted to invest, I would want to start off small, with maybe $50-$100. But, with Etrade and TD Ameritrade charging $12.99 to buy shares and then another $12.99 to sell, it made no sense to dabble in the market at my level. With Robinhood, however, with zero trading fees, I could invest $50 in the market and actually make money.
I started experimenting about two years ago and have learned a ton since. Since then, I have literally made tens of thousands of dollars--yes, you read that correctly--using the Robinhood app.
